Editor,

Through your paper we would like the MPSC to clarify regarding the appointment to the post of Assistant Research Officer or ARO ( Under Economics Affairs Department).  Whereas the Advertisement for the said post was given on 17th June 2014 via No.MPSC/Advt-38/1/2014-2015/1 for five (5) posts  only and after the written examination and interview  was conducted, the list of five (5) successful candidates appeared namely (1) Bankordor Warlaitthma (2) Wanshimti Nongkynrih (3) Banylla Lyngkhoi (4)Azean Farlane B Sangma (5) Pangseng Manda Sangma, were declared via No.MPSC/Ex-C/28/2014-2015/3. However, it has come to our notice that one candidate by the name of Lasoki Sumer whose name did not figure in the list of successful candidates was appointed to the said post and is now serving as Assistant Research Officer in the Shillong, Secretariat. Moreover, as per our knowledge there was no waiting list ever published by the MPSC for the said post. Therefore, we want to know from the MPSC on what basis the above candidate was appointed to the said post. This is to quell any misconception in the minds of other candidates of a backdoor appointment in the above case. There are many like us who also made it to the interview but our names did not figure in the final list.

Why is India so weak-kneed?

Editor,

India is either a cowardly country or too patient towards Pakistan which is engineering many bloody attacks against this country since the past several years. What India must do is to teach Pakistan a lesson and speak the language it understands, either bilaterally or at the international fora. India must act and stand tall.  It ought to make itself known to that country and others that it cannot be played around with. Pakistan does not understand diplomacy. It understands only one language and that is brute force. Pakistan has been hurting India through a thousand cuts by using the  ISI and its military regime. It nurtures terrorist organisations including the Al Qaeda, Mujahedeen, Jash-e-Muhammad, Lashkar-e- Toiba, ISIS and others. It is a terrorist country. Terrorist countries do not understand dialogue; they only understand the power of the gun.

Great initiative by apex court!

Editor,
The Supreme Court of India should be congratulated for making Internet search engines agree to block sites and advertisements that offer kits to determine the gender of an unborn child. With the help of  such kits, crazy, killer parents have already, done great damage to our social equilibrium. It was mainly because of those killer parents who killed their girl children in the womb or in the cradle that  India’s child sex ratio (0-6 years) came down from 945 girls for 1000 boys in 1991 to 927 in 2001 and slipped further downward to 914 in 2011 census. This ratio clearly indicates what is in store for us. So, more such measures and monitoring need to be taken. Otherwise, India is bound to become a country where monogamy has to be replaced by polyandry.

Impact of coal ban

Editor,

I read the CM’s advice to the media to probe the impact of ban on coal mining (ST, Sep 12, 2016) with great amusement. We all know how the ban on coal mining has devastatingly affected the economic health of the state in general. However, it is not the duty of the media to conduct a study on impact of any ban. It is the government concerned, whose responsibility is the progress of the state and the welfare and economic wellbeing of its people that should be taking up such a study in the first place. It could have assessed the adversity of impact on all sectors and come up with alternative solutions to mitigate the effects. Shirking of responsibility is least expected, more so from the head of the state. To merely state that people should turn to tourism as an alternate source of revenue is crass and betrays a lack of awareness on the ground realities of the ban. It is akin to the Marie-Antoinette attributed statement. “Let them eat cake”!
