SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel on Wednesday expressed concern over the low rate of institutional deliveries in the Northeastern states.
Speaking to media persons after a meeting of the parliamentary consultative committee at NEIGRIHMS, Patel said the government is keen to popularise the practice of institutional delivery in the region, adding that Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is keen to involve public representatives to create awareness about various programmes that have    been implemented by the Central government for institutional delivery.
She added that the meeting discussed ways and means to turn around the existing situation in the region where institutional delivery is still unpopular.
The minister also said that most of the states barring a few were performing well as far as infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate and infertility rate were concerned.
The meeting also reviewed the performances of the four major health institutions in the Northeastern region including NEIGRIHMS and listed the support needed from the Central government to improve the functioning of all the health institutions in the region.
