NONGPOH: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council has extended the present body of Nongpoh Town Committee (NTC) led by C.B Syiem as Chairman for a period of one year till general elections for a full-fledged Nongpoh Town Committee to be held.
When contacted, Neil Antonio War, EM in charge Administration of Town Committees, said general elections to the Nongpoh Town Committee could not be held since there was no Budgetary Provision and that he would raise the matter in the upcoming Budget Session of the Council.
He also expressed hope that the general elections for NTC would be held in June next year once budgetary provision is approved by the Council.
Sources informed that the Council has extended the present body of NTC under the Provision to clause (1) of Rule 5 of the United Khasi-Jaintia Hills District (Establishment of Town Committee) Rules, 1962.  Syiem added that the NTC has in the past several times sent reminders to the council for holding general elections for a full-fledged town committee.
