Flash mob in Nongstoin to promote Clean India Campaign

NONGSTOIN: It was a pleasant surprise for market-goers of Nongstoin on Saturday as youths of Upper New Nongstoin put on a flash mob at Nongbah Bridge much to the delight of onlookers.
The dance is part of the closing ceremony of Swachh Bharat Week, a week-long programme organised by the Sengsamla Shnong Upper New Nongstoin. It is also the first of its kind taken up by the youths in Nongstoin with an initiative to achieve Clean India Campaign and to spread the movement to others adjoining villages.
The closing function marked the successful event in Upper New Nongstoin where M.B.Tongper, EAC who is also the BDO of Mawshynrut C&RD Block, attended the programme as the chief guest in the presence of various locality heads and members of the Sengsamla Shnong.
The programme included marathon, door-to-door awareness programme including awareness programme to all the parking lot in the village, Clean Umsait mluh River Campaign, debate and quiz competition on the theme Swachh Bharat Mission, screening of documentary and short films to children and youths and mass cleaning drive. A public rally and street play were also held on the last day.
Speaking at the closing function which held at Nongbah taxi stand, Tongper lauded the efforts of the Sengsamla in organising a function to motivate the people about the Mission.
“We need the involvement of youths and children to make our district clean and also to complete the mission of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by 2019” Tongper said. He also added that similar programme conducted by the Sengsamla should be held in different areas of West Khasi Hills to create awareness about Swachh Bharat.
As the function was closing, youths of Upper New Nongstoin broke out into a dance and were also joined by 70 trained dancers. The entrance to Nongbah bridge was jam-packed as crowd gathered around the dancers to get a closer look.
This flash mob marked the success of the programme and the beginning of a new era in making Upper New Nongstoin clean and green.
