SHILLONG: The third Khasi Students’ Union freshers’ meet cum get-together held in Delhi on Saturday stressed on the need for the Centre to recognise Khasi female fighter Phan Nonglait, who fought against the British.
The freshers’ meet, presided over by KSU public secretary Smile Ioana, was attended by students from different universities in Delhi, including Delhi University and AIIMS.
Chief guest Daniel Stone Lyngdoh and others, including presidents of KSU units in Delhi and Dehradun spoke on the occasion.
Lyngdoh, who is the honorary special police officer of North East police in Delhi, stressed on the need to build up the lives of students “morally and intellectually so that they can stand on their own feet”.
A discussion on how the Centre should recognise Phan Nonglait, the female freedom fighter from Hima Nongkhlaw as she fought against the British along with Tirot Sing, was conducted.
A quiz competition was also organised in which the Rilang group came first and Umngot and Kupli groups became the first and second runners-up.
