SHILLONG: The 26 students from Bangladesh who are on a four-day trip to Shillong interacted with the pupils at Border Security Force (BSF) School, Umpling.
The visit of the young delegation from various branches of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Schools is aimed at understanding the diverse culture here and knowing the scenic beauty of Meghalaya.
Speaking to media persons, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Akhtar Iqbal, who is leading the delegation, said, “The main purpose of the travel to India is to gain friendship in the long run through interaction and achieve mutual bonding that will be helpful for both countries in building confidence.”
Commenting on the BSF students’ approach during the interaction, Iqbal said, “The students are very inquisitive as they want to know what Bangladesh is like. It is all about learning and understanding each other.”
After the end of the cultural programme, the BGB students interacted with the media. They were excited about their visit to Meghalaya and said in unison that it was an amazing experience.
One of the students said, “It is a colourful and diverse country where people are very hospitable. Our perspective of India has changed after the visit.”
The students have also called for stronger relationship between the two countries and wished to discover India more.
Earlier during the cultural programme, Iqbal, while referring to the 1971 war, said, “We owe a lot to India.”
The students from Bangladesh later visited Umiam Lake and Mawlynnong. They also had a glance of NEPA while taking a round of the Academy.
