Girl forced to convert to Islam before marriage

SHILLONG: The city police have rescued a 16-year-old girl, who was missing since September 14. Police said she kidnapped by a person in Assam.
East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said on September 14 a complaint was lodged with Pastuer Beat House that said a minor girl was missing and suspected to be kidnapped by one Anil Haque from Pynthorumkhrah.
A case was taken up and during investigation, sub-inspector K.P Singh and his team went to Barundanga in Assam’s Tamarhat Dhubri.
The investigating team, along with Assam police, conducted a midnight raid and rescued the girl from Haque’s house.
The police said during interrogation, the girl informed the investigating officers that Haque converted here to Islam before marrying her.
Kharkrang said when Haque saw the police team he tried to escape but was arrested.
The raid was the result of the meticulous planning by SI Singh and his staff with assistance of Assam Police, Kharkrang added.
