SHILLONG: The writ petition filed by the MDCs of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) pertaining to implementation of the ‘Special Assistance’ fund will be taken up by the Division bench of the High Court of Meghalaya on October 19.
The petitioners, who are the elected members of GHADC, filed the writ petition stating that the GHADC is not implementing the ‘Special Assistance’ fund extended by the Central Government as per the guideline besides not allocating equal fund to all the constituencies.
“Having regard to the circumstances, it appears appropriate that this matter be placed before a Division Bench of this Court. This petition, therefore, be placed before the Chief Justice for appropriate assignment,’ the order said.
FIR lodged in forest guards assault case
SHILLONG: A case has been registered in the assault of two forest guards in the Rongrenggre Reserve Forest in East Garo Hills on September 29.
Police said the incident took place around 11pm on September 29. The team from the Simsanggre forest range reached Matcha Akawe Chidipo in the forest after being tipped off. The forest staff found a truck but could not spot the smugglers.
However, the timber smugglers came back with a mob and vandalised the Forest Department’s truck and attacked the guards with axes, ‘dao’ and stones. One of the two injured guards has been identified as Manly K. Marak. The driver, identified as Ethil Shira, went missing and was found the next morning with multiple injuries. The smugglers’ truck, registered in the name of one Md Abul Hussain of Nayapara in Assam, was seized. Terakchi K. Marak, ACF in charge Simsanggre Range, has filed an FIR in this regard.
