SHILLONG/ GUWAHATI: It was a euphoric moment for fans of Robert Allen Zimmerman, famously known as Bob Dylan, when news of the ‘Tambourine man’ getting the Nobel Prize for Literature 2016 was out.
In Shillong, the music capital of the North East, music lovers are ecstatic over the announcement.
Shillong’s own Lou Majaw, who has been celebrating Dylan’s birthday on May 24 for the last 40 years by organizing grand concerts, said, “We don’t need to be educated in order to know and understand the human mind and human way of thinking. It is all about understanding and sharing it with others which is more important. Anyone can write and know how to nurture it; they can share their thoughts with others.”
Terming it as the greatest news on earth which calls for a celebration, he informed that there will be a special celebration at Café Shillong on Sunday from 6 pm to celebrate Dylan’s win.
R.G. Lyngdoh, vice-chancellor of Martin Luther Christian University, said, “There is no contending the fact that his writing has impacted poetry in a unique, vivid way. He gave a new aspect to poetry writing. His music not only has a contemporary feel but it has appealed to the people at the grassroots. He voices a lot of what people face in an artistic way.”
