SHILLONG: The State Congress does not see any threat from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which has decided to contest the by-election to the vacant seats in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, senior Congress leader and Cabinet minister Prestone Tynsong said the party welcomes BJP  and any other party to contest the by-election.
“Be it TMC, SP, BSP or AIADMK, we welcome them all,” Tynsong said, adding, “The more the merrier.”
Asserting that the Congress will contest the by-election to win, he dismissed the so called ‘BJP wave’ in the region. The Congress does not see any threat from BJP since Meghalaya is a Christian state, he added.
“People in the State vote for individual candidates and not the party,” he claimed.
Tynsong also sought to differ from HSPDP chief Ardent Basaiawmoit’s statement that the December 13 by-election would be a test for the Congress. “Every election has to be contested seriously and the Congress has to work hard to win the elections for the seven vacant seats of the KHADC and JHADC,” he stated.
