SHILLONG: The UDP has hinted that the remaining Congress MDCs have sent feelers to desert Congress and join the party following the resignation of five Congress MDCs after their leader P.N Syiem was suspended from the Congress.
UDP legislator Titosstarwell Chyne said on Friday that some Congress MDCs were in touch with the party and it is just a matter of time before they desert the Congress.
Chyne also said that the MDCs who resigned were more farsighted than the MLAs and ministers who are still clinging on to power though they are unhappy with the affairs in the government.
“It is good to see that the MDCs have the guts and farsightedness to follow their leader”,   Chyne added.
The UDP leader said the party MDCs will stick with the present coalition in the KHADC. “However, we are yet to officially discuss the matter at the party level”, he added.
Chyne also hinted that this development will have an impact on the upcoming polls to the seven district council seats and also on the 2018 Assembly polls.
Commenting on the resignation of UDP’s JHADC MDC Marki Mulieh from the party recently, Chyne said that since his uncle (Sing Mulieh) had joined the BJP, the MDC had no choice other than to leave UDP and join the BJP.
