SHILLONG: Suspended KHADC chief P N Syiem on Saturday said that the Executive Committee of People’s Democratic Front (PDF) is intact and the majority of MDCs have reposed faith in him.
All the 16 MDCs including the five Congress members who had resigned had a meeting on Saturday. The MDCs have expressed faith under the leadership of Syiem.
“The meeting was called as we wanted to understand where we stand and the MDCs have expressed their confidence in me,” he said.
Quoting rule 22 sub- rule1 of the District Council Rules, Syiem said that if MDCs want to remove the Executive Committee or the CEM, they have to move the vote of no confidence, but outside the House, the CEM cannot be removed.
Earlier on Saturday, in a hurriedly convened parliamentary party meeting by Congress working president James Lyngdoh, the five Congress MDCs elected Mansturdy Nongrem as the new leader in the presence of MPCC president DD Lapang.
Syiem, however, had said that it was his prerogative to call the parliamentary party meeting and not that of the party.  Syiem also said that the five MDCs who are still with the Congress cannot remove him since they do not have the numbers.
According to Syiem, the five Congress MDCs have not left the PDF coalition in KHADC and it is yet to be known whether they will also support his EC.
He asserted that there is no change in the two-day autumn session starting from October 18.
