‘Centre sanctions Rs 133 crore for project supporting traditional medicine practitioners’a

NONGPOH: In what can be termed as a major boost to the practitioners of traditional medicine in the State under the banner of Synjuk Ki Nongsumar Dawai Khasi Nylla (SNDKN), an Institute (of traditional medicine) and Herbal Garden will be set up at Lum Sohpetbneng soon with an aim to promote traditional medicine practitioners and protect various medicinal plants available in Meghalaya.
Informing this during a function organised by the SNDKN Ri Bhoi unit at Umsning Town Durbar auditorium on Saturday, Banteidor Lyngdoh, EM and Chairman of Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission of KHADC said that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 133 crore for the project.
Lyngdoh also informed that the KHADC will fight for rights of ownership of the medicinal plants available in the State for the benefit of the traditional practitioners. He also stated that the Council is making efforts to certify and issue license to traditional practitioners and expressed hope that the process would be complete within six months.
Earlier in the day, a book on traditional healing and medicines written by Philling Rynjah was released by Lyngdoh.
The function was also attended by Arbinus Lyngdoh, EM KHADC and Dipul Ryntathiang, Chairman Umsning Town Durbar.
