Tura Medical College land dispute

TURA: A week after the Bolwarigre A’king accused the Doldegre A’king of encroachment and illegal sale of their land to the government for the establishment of a medical college at Tura, the Nokma of Doldegre has denied the allegations and said that he had documentary evidence to prove the accusation wrong.
The two Nokmas of Doldegre, Willistone Ch Marak and his wife Merabel A Sangma have released a government document which states that the land belonging to the Doldegre A’king was not sold but given as a gift to the government for the setting up of a medical college in Tura.
He has denied encroaching into the Bolwarigre A’king land adjoining his territory and maintains that three hundred bighas situated within the A’king land of the donors at Doldegre were parted with.
The ‘Deed of Gift’ signed on August 31 this year between the Nokma and his wife with the Meghalaya Government represented by the Deputy Commissioner for Revenue, West Garo Hills and the Chairman of the Hospital Management Society, Tura Civil Hospital mentions that the land was given away as a gift in the greater interest and development of the area.
“The said property is being gifted to the Donee (Government) for setting up of medical college so that the life of the people will become easier and with a motive to provide better educational and medical opportunities to the youth of the society,” mentions the deed document signed between the Nokma and the Government.
The Doldegre Nokma has also dismissed allegations that a large sum of money was paid for the sale of the land as claimed by the neighbouring Bolwarigre A’king.
