SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) tabled the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) for the year ended March 31, 2010, on the first day of the autumn session on Tuesday.
The House will discuss the proposal to set up a Committee on the CAG report as suggested by Council CEM PN Syiem on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters after the session, the CEM said, “During the discussion on the report of the CAG, it was felt     that the Council should come up with a Committee on the CAG report so that any observation by the CAG can be examined and that utilisation of funds by the Council will be transparent as per the expectations of the people.”
He added that the Committee will start functioning after it gets the approval of the House.
The CAG report points out that the District Council did not deduct VAT from construction works in 2009-10 resulting in a revenue loss of Rs 59.96 lakh. In this context, Syiem said on Tuesday the Council should introduce a KHADC Value Added Tax along the lines of the State government’s Meghalaya Value Added Tax.
