AIZAWL: Kolasib district along the Mizoram-Assam border is ready to conduct the repatriation of 628 Bru families from six relief camps in North Tripura district scheduled to commence from November 1, district Deputy Commissioner H Lalengmawia said on Tuesday.
The meeting of the District Core Committee for Bru repatriation was held at Kolasib on Tuesday, which discussed a detailed programme of the proposed repatriation in accordance with the Road Map-V for Bru Repatriation prepared by the state government. He said identification of bona fide residents of Mizoram was scheduled to begin from November 1, while the actual repatriation was expected to commence from November 30.
Once repatriated, the Bru families were proposed to be resettled in eight villages – Bairabi, North Thinglian, Dilzau, Meidum, Pangbalkawn, Bukvannei and South Chhimluang, he said adding, Saikhawthlir and Rengtekawn villages were proposed to be used as transit camps.
According to the Road Map-V, a total number of 3,445 families were proposed to be repatriated this time and resettled in three districts – Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei. The largest number of Bru families would be resettled in the Mizoram-Tripura border Mamit district, followed by Kolasib, while a very few families were proposed to be resettled in South Mizoram’s Lunglei district, adjoining Bangladesh.
The state home department officials, however, said the actual repatriation might not be conducted as per schedule as the Centre was yet to give formal clearance and sanction the funds required to conduct the process.
The actual repatriation might be possible only by January next year, the officials added. (PTI)
