5-member CAG panel
The House on Wednesday passed the constitution of the committee on the CAG report that will have a chairman, a secretary and three members for a term of two years. HSPDP member Teilinia Thangkhiew will be the chairman for the current term, KHADC Joint Secretary M. Kharkrang the secretary and UDP members Rona Khymdeit, Latiplang Kharkongor and Independent MDC Morningstar Mawsor the other members.
VAB reminder
During the question hour, P.N Syiem in a reply to a query raised by Teilinia Thangkhiew about the Village Administration Bill (VAB) said the Council would send a reminder to the State Government on the issue. He also placed the 12 points raised by the Ministry of Home Affairs on VAB.
Truck trouble
KHADC Executive Member Albinus Lyngdoh was caught in an embarrassing situation when he was unable to provide details of the purchase of two mini trucks in 2014-15 at a cost of Rs 4,96,000. In a reply to a question by Teilinia Thangkhiew, Lyngdoh said the trucks were given to Nongthymmai. However, Nongthymmai MDC Latiplang Kharkongor said he was unaware of the development in his constituency.
Amendment to council rules
With regard to the status of the amendment of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils), Rules, 1951, CEM P.N Syiem in reply to a query raised by Thangkhiew said the matter was under consideration. “We should be able to bring the proposed amendment during the next session,” he added.
UDP’s Latiplang Kharkongor asked the CEM whether the executive committee had streamlined the different clans to which the latter replied that it is an urgent matter and is under examination.
House prorogued
The KHADC autumn session was prorogued on Wednesday after a session of two days.
During the session the PDF coalition led by suspended Congress member and KHADC CEM P.N Syiem got the support of five Congress MDCs. Various issues, including the embezzlement, dominated the session which began on Tuesday.
