SHILLONG: After the Congress and the BJP, the United Democratic Party (UDP) is now all geared up for the December 13 by-polls to seven vacant seats in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
The party announced the names of four candidates on Wednesday. Janbor War will contest from Pariong-Mawthadraishan constituency and Wankupar Syiemlieh will vie for the Nongspung-Sohiong seat, said UDP working president Jemino Mawthoh on Wednesday.
Besides, Frederick Lyshiang will contest from Laban-Mawprem constituency and Firstborn Manner from War East. H.S Shylla whose name was announced last month is the candidate from Nongkrem constituency.
Mawthoh said the party will shortly select the candidates for Nongkhlaw-Mairang and Rambrai-Jyrngam constituencies.
Reacting to a query about the delay in finalising the list of candidates, Mawthoh said the party follows a democratic process of electing its candidates from various levels of circle and district units and then the nomination is finally cleared by the party headquarters.
He exuded confidence that the party would win all the seven seats.
