TURA: The Garo Hills Catholic Union (GHCU) based in Tura while welcoming the recent spurt in surrenders of militant cadres has urged their comrades still languishing in the jungles to come over ground for the sake of peace in Garo Hills.
In their appeal towards the rebel cadres especially, those of the GNLA, the union recalled the many instances of surrenders in the recent past and urged them to follow their example.
It however, expressed dismay on learning from news reports that some of the GNLA cadres had rejoined the outfit while some others had floated a new group after deserting the GNLA.
The GHCU also lent full support to the demand of the Tura Garo Senior Citizens Forum for the early release of the rehabilitation package to the surrendered.
“The cadres have taken the path of peace by giving themselves to the Government. It is now the duty of the government to look after the cadres. We appeal to the government to release the package as promised to the cadres so that they can get on with their lives,” it said.
