NONGPOH: The inspection at various locations of NH-6, including the delayed Umsning bypass, in Ri Bhoi district on Tuesday revealed that there is no footpath or drainage system.
The inspection was conducted from Pahamrioh to Saiden village under the jurisdiction of Nongpoh Town in the presence of Umsning MLA C. Lyngdoh, DC C.P Gotmare, officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and leaders of the Nongpoh Town Committee.
The stretch has no footpaths causing inconvenience to pedestrians. Also, lack of drainage system here causes floods in the town.
Speaking to media persons, Lyngdoh said the inspection was taken up following complaints from locals about the faulty four-laning of the national highway stretch. He also informed that during the inspection, several proposals were made to the NHAI officials for construction of a foot overbridge at busy junctions like Byrnihat, Umling, Iewmawlong and Ri Bhoi College. The NHAI officials have agreed to construct the bridge, he added.
“The delegation had also instructed NHAI officials to speed up the beautification project of Nongpoh Town and construction of footpaths in areas of Nongpoh Town,” Lyngdoh said.
