TURA: The breakaway faction of the GNLA led by former commander Salman  suffered another blow with five of his cadres surrendering to East Garo Hills police at Williamnagar on Saturday evening. This follows the recent police raid on Salman’s hideout and seizure of all his main weapons.
Five militants of the GNLA who joined Salman abandoned the organization and surrendered before district SP Davis Nestell R Marak at Williamnagar on Saturday evening.
They belonged to the 6th batch of GNLA recruits who passed out of training from the mother organization.
With police having seized almost the entire armament of Salman’s faction, the surrendered cadres handed over just one pistol along with 24 rounds of ammunition. However, despite the twin reverses, Salman did not join the surrender group.
The five GNLA cadres of Salman’s faction who surrendered to Williamnagar police are Sanjay Marak (27) alias Warak, Aksai Sangma (18) alias Daldro, Jachm Marak (23) alias Lewin, Grikcheng Marak (20), Okgol Momin.
This week, police commandos raided his hideout at Nangalbibra and shot dead one rebel.
Police also seized a powerful mortar with a live projectile, a barrel grenade launcher, a German-made automatic Heckler and Koch sub machine gun along with an INSAS rifle.
