TURA/SHILLONG: The disbanded ANVC-Breakaway (ANVC-B) outfit has accused the State government of being biased in selecting former rebels for a three-month skill development training programme that concluded recently.
ANVC-B was reportedly not invited to join the training programme that concluded in Tura on Saturday. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had given away certificates to the reformed rebels.
Former ANVC-B general secretary Jakrik Momin lashed out at the government for not inviting the outfit’s cadres to join the training and further accused it of manipulating rehabilitation packages.
“We were not invited to join the skill development programme because they (the government) wanted to leave us out of the rehabilitation package. The State has been delaying and manipulating our packages over the past two years and is doing so even now,” said Momin.
ANVC-B was a signatory in the tripartite agreement with the Centre and the State. Momin said the ANVC-B cadres did not surrender but came forward to join the mainstream after signing the Agreed Text for Settlement.
“Our cadres never surrendered but came forward to join the mainstream after signing the Agreed Text for Settlement. Our brothers stooped and surrendered but it was with pride and honour that we signed the agreement unlike other groups,” said Momin, adding that their packages were delayed because they did not give in to manipulations. “Now with the retirement of SK Jain, we hope to see some change in governance,” he added.
