SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Youth Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has taken up the matter of low supply of kerosene to people, especially those from BPL families, with the Joint Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department G.S. Nongkhlaw.
Speaking to reporters, KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah alleged that the kerosene quota has been reduced to a mere 1-2 litres from the usual 7 litres. “This is a ploy of the Central Government to bring in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme to provide free LPG connections to BPL families… Gas is in short supply in the urban areas so we can imagine the condition in the rural parts which are confronted with problems of poverty and connectivity,” he said. Passah appealed to the Centre to release the quota of kerosene to the people to relieve them of the burden. “We will meet the Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in this regard,” he added.
