North East Festival to showcase magnificent region in Delhi

Music, traditional sports & dance and fashion shows to  draw crowd in crowd

Guwahati: The fourth edition of North East Festival that is being held at Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts (IGNCA) in New Delhi for three days from November 4 to 6, will focus on bringing the impact of the mighty river Brahmaputra on the life of people/cultures thriving on its banks besides promoting the uniqueness of the region in all sphere culture and lifestyle.
“As the earlier editions of the North East Festival received tremendous res-ponse from all stakeholders, it is time to utilize the festival as an effective platform for raising the critical issues affecting the North East,’” said Shyamkanu Mahanta, chief organiser, North East Festival.
“This year we will hold an exhaustive seminar on perennial flood and erosion caused by the river Brahmaputra that affects the region. Experts from IITs across the country will congregate and discuss about the Brahmaputra River along with other stakeholders of NER in the seminar to explore ways to a permanent solution to flood and erosion issues. The seminar would be presented by Water Resources Department, Government of Assam and will have participants from various multilaterals and the Central Government,’” Mahanta said.
He informed that one of the core objectives for this edition of the festival would be to promote tourism in the region and plenty of tour operators and tourists were slated to attend this year’s North East Festival which has become a platform to promote business for North East entrepreneurs apart from bridging the bridge with Delhi.
There will be discussion on sports, back to back deliberations on tourism and many more.
One of the highlights of this year’s Festival will be the grand musical festival that will feature iconic musicians from the region including Angarag (Papon) Mahanta, Zubeen Garg, rapper Borkung Hrangkhal. There will be performances by D J Zaeden, rock bands Traffic Jam, Fourth Element, Mo & The Shooting Stars, Reverse Tragedy and many more.
Raax Leela of Manipur, around 20 folk dance forms along with the famous Ram Vijay Ankia Bhaona of Assam will be presented by Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Fashion shows comprising of the best North East handlooms would be showcased by around 20 talented young designers and models of the North East region.
For food lovers, an exotic collection of delectable cuisines from the North East with around 30 food stalls will be on offer.
North East is also famous for its traditional sports and the Festival would display about 14 traditional sports from the region.
Besides, live art, a photography exhibition showcasing the vivid wildlife and natural beauty of the region, an art workshop with 20 talented young artistes of North East, plenty of interactive games – the gala North East Festival will have it all!
A large exhibition of products from North East called “Make in North East Exhibition”, including handloom & handicraft, agro and food products would be on display with around 100 entrepreneurs participating from all across the North East region, who would present their products.
