Teachers’ body meets Wahlang over grant to ad hoc schools

SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM) met the Commissioner and Secretary of Education, D.P. Wahlang, recently.
The meeting discussed enhancement of ad hoc grant to primary and upper primary ad hoc schools. Wahlang said the file in this regard has been processed and that the Minister of School Education and Literacy has approved the same. He added that the cabinet memo is pending with the Planning Department for scrutiny.
The proposal for enhancement has been made with effect from September 1, 2016.
Wahlang also informed the teachers’ delegation that the new pension scheme for deficit schools is being examined by the department and the proposal for colleges has already been forwarded and is being scrutinised by the Finance Department. “The proposal for schools will be on the same lines with deficit colleges,” he said.
Wahlang added that the social security scheme for ad hoc schools is being examined by the Education Department even as he urged the JACATAM members to give their suggestions.
Meanwhile, Babu Kular Khongjirem, JACAAM’s publicity secretary, said a meeting of primary and upper primary teachers under the banner of JACATAM will be held at Mawkhar Christian Higher Secondary School on November 5.
