SHILLONG: With the current developments over the alleged mishandling of the public transport system, the UDP on Wednesday called for an independent probe into the handing over of operation of buses and maxi taxis to NGOs from Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC).
UDP leader Allantry F Dkhar said as per the CAG report, MTC was making profit when the service was provided by it.
“We appreciate the bold stand taken up by Urban and Municipal Affairs Minister Ronnie Lyngdoh to streamline the system and hence there is a need to have an independent probe,” Dkhar said.
The UDP also wanted to know that when MTC was making profit what made the concerned department to hand over the operation to NGOs.
