SHILLONG: Jowai Polytechnic has removed two non-tribals who worked as chowkidar and helper at the institute after pressure from the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (West Jaintia Hills).
On August 23, the pressure group had demanded that the duo, R.B Shatri and Tull Thapa, be removed from their jobs.
The principal had sought a month’s time to replace them with tribal workers.
On October 19, when HYC went to meet the principal, he informed that both Shatri and Thapa were removed. Instead, two locals, Sebastian Dhar and Hamedonhi Shylla, have been recruited.
The pressure group asserted that locals should have been employed and in view of the rising unemployment in the State, HYC has also urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to look into the matter.
