SHILLONG: A minor girl was raped by her brother-in law at Diengpasoh on Friday.
The 8- year-old girl was dragged to the nearby jungle at Diengpasoh and was raped by the man identified as Love Singh Star Mukhim.
Mukhim had even threatened the minor saying if she informed anyone, he would hack her with an axe.
After the incident, the girl was crying and bleeding which alerted her mother. When questioned, she narrated her ordeal following which a case under various sections involving rape was filed by the father of the victim.
On Saturday morning, the accused hailing from Jaroit village East Khasi Hills was arrested from Mawkhanu village by the police.
The Chairperson State Commission for Protection of Child Rights ( SCPCR) Meena Kharkongor visited the victim.
Teen raped in city
In another incident, an 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped in the city.
Police said that the incident took place on Friday at 11AM when one Sunlight Jana (27), raped the girl at his residence at Mawlai Kynton Massar, Shillong. Police said that the accused has been arrested and the matter is being investigated.
