SHILLONG: Following in the footsteps of its sister state Sikkim, the State government is planning to introduce ‘cable car’ rides with an aim to attract more tourists to the Abode of Clouds.
The proposed cable car will run from Pongtung to Pynter villages situated at Pynursla in East Khasi Hills and the project cost will be Rs 22 crore. Governemnt appointed consultants have already done a survey.
Border Areas Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that the place earmarked for cable cars is a perfect location as it connects the two villages. He added that engineers are working hard on the project as the towers to both ends have to be strong.
“The cable car will pass over a river and offer tourists a sightseeing of the Umngot and the Shengan rivers which flow from Pynter,” he said.
He added that the State government is awaiting the release of the sanctioned amount from NEC.
