CSWO swings into action, blames cop for not following law

SHILLONG: A woman from Kyndong Tuber, West Jaintia Hills, has been accused of falsely implicating a nine-year-old boy for ‘raping’ her 7-year-old daughter on November 1. The mother of the girl even filed an FIR at Jowai Police Cell.
On November 2, the police had sent the girl for medical check-up and called the boy’s mother to the Women Police Cell.
The Inspector, Rida Suchiang then told her that there was nothing in the medical report to indicate rape but since he touched her, it can be taken as rape.
Giving the reason behind the girl’s mother to cry rape, Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) President Agnes Kharshiing in a press conference said, “On questioning the boy, he said that the girl was standing on his way so he pushed her aside when she fell down and cried. The girl’s mother then lodged an FIR claiming that her daughter was raped by the boy.’’
The CSWO stated that Suchiang should have followed the procedure of law but instead threatened to lock the boy up and then take him to Shillong the next day.
It is also alleged that Suchiang  threatened to lock up the boy for attempt to rape if his mother does not pay the girl’s family a sum of Rs 1000 which the boy’s mother complied with.
“The CSWO condemns the insensitive action of this police woman who has clearly abused her position and the organization demands action against her as the accused minor did not have even the slightest intention to rape,” it stated.
Meanwhile, several cases of crime against women have been reported from different parts of the state in the last couple of weeks.
A woman from Patranga village in Rajabala in West Garo Hills lodged a complaint stating that on October 28, around 10 pm, one Abdul Goni raped her 18-year-old sister and took her to his residence at Mogurmari village, where his family members assaulted her. After snatching gold ornaments from the victim, they threw her out of their house.
In another incident, a woman lodged a complaint stating that on November 4, around 10 pm, three persons identified as Bhah, Lip Sympli and Thoo Mawlong raped her in her tea stall at Deinchynrum village in East Jaintia Hills. Police is investigating into the matter.
Another complaint was lodged by a woman saying that on November 7, around 8 pm, one unidentified person molested her 22-year-old daughter at Police Bazar, Shillong.
