SHILLONG: Alleging NEHU’s prejudice in the marking system towards the three years LLB course, the Students’ Bar Association of Shillong Law College have given 15 days time to the Controller, NEHU to rectify the problems.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Peter Aiborlang Dohkrut told reporters of three issues that have affected the students of the college ranging from timely and proper evaluation of examination of results and papers to introduction of internal assessment similar to NEHU.
Stating that the late declaration of results is a violation of the students’ rights, he said, “NEHU delays in publishing results for up to 6-8 months and we demand that results should be declared within a period of two months. While in the case of NEHU law students they get their results in just a span 1 month.”
Indicating the inconsistent awarding of marks by the teachers, he said, “Till date the teachers who correct the papers have under-rated the students to a very low extent that makes it difficult for students to score 60 per cent. We are competent enough but such things will deprive students to compete outside the state.”
He recalled that in the year 2015, only two students cleared the papers which means 99.8 per cent of the 6th semester students from the College were declared to have failed the examination. After the students filed an RTI, it was found that there was a uniform marking system that even a good answer script was awarded the same marks with the low average answer scripts.
Dohkrut added, “The NEHU students received 40 per cent internal assessment marks whereas we are deprived of such a privilege.”
Dohkrut said, “We were informed that the Controller was at the Vice-Chancellor’s office and when we went there we were told that had he gone for his lunch and many such excuses.”
