18.7 L cases worth Rs 640 cr settled in National Lok Adalats

NEW DELHI: Around 18.7 lakh cases worth Rs 640 crore were on Saturday settled in the National Lok Adalats held across the country at all levels from the taluk courts to the Supreme Court.
The National Lok Adalat, organised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) along with the respective state legal services authorities, dealt with 7.5 lakh pending and 11.1 lakh pre-litigation cases.
Twenty two pending cases in the Supreme Court have also been settled for an amount of Rs 60.75 lakh, NALSA said in its release.
“Approximately 18.7 lakh cases as per the figures received till 4.30 PM which include 7.5 lakh pending and 11.1 lakh pre-litigation cases, have been settled.
The total value of the settlement amount reached today is Rs 640 crore,” it said. Meanwhile, the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) also settled over 3.9 lakh cases for a settlement amount of Rs 14.83 crore.
The Lok Adalats which were organised in all  11 district courts of Delhi were presided over  by the judges of the trial courts, DSLSA said.
“Total 63 benches were constituted in which 3,95,495 cases were disposed of pertaining to different jurisdiction of pre-litigative and pending nature at district courts of Delhi in which settlement amount was nearly Rs 8.2 crore,” it added.
It also said that Debt Recovery Tribunals settled eight cases for an approximate amount of Rs 5.82 crore. Lok Adalats were also organised in Delhi State Commission and district consumer forums here in which eight benches were constituted and 106 cases were settled for an amount of Rs 82.68 lakh.
NALSA said that the National Lok Adalat has benefited the common man and has been achieved not only because of the legal services authorities/committees but also because of the cooperation extended by judges, lawyers and other concerned authorities.
The National Lok Adalat was organised under the patronage of Chief Justice of India T S Thakur, and Justice Anil R Dave, who is also the Executive Chairman of NALSA. (PTI)
