SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills district administration will intensify its drive against hawkers by next week following the High Court’s eviction order on Thursday.
Magistrates on Saturday went to Police Bazar and other areas and told the  hawkers to move away from the roadside and the footpaths. East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said the administration would prepare a plan of action next week.
The High Court of Meghalaya on Thursday ordered eviction.
The High Court also directed the Chief Secretary and the Deputy Commissioner to find a suitable place for the hawker zone within in a month.
Meanwhile, a visit to Police Bazar on Saturday evening revealed that the number of hawkers was almost nil during the day time but their numbers grew in the evening and hawkers continued to do a brisk business.
