Mawlai: Two years ago in 2014, the first ever interactive Khasi Bible Application for android was launched. This year Fr. Michael Makri and his team at the Don Bosco Media Network – which includes Aibor Nongkynrih, Mewan Talang, Michael Mawniuh, Evangeline Syiem Malngiang, A. M. Laloo and Bahun Susngi – launched Bible games for android in Khasi language.
This app was officially launched by Rev. Fr. Olphindro O Lyngkot, the Director of Don Bosco Youth Centre, Vice Provincial and Youth Delegate of the Province of Salesian Shillong in the presence of Fr. Jeevan Lakra, the Rector of Savio Juniorate and hundreds of youths at the Ravalico Hall.
Speaking on the accession, Fr. Paul acknowledged the contribution of Fr.Michael Makri, especially to the Khasi-speaking youth.
He urged everyone present to be committed in all their endeavours like Fr. Makri. Speaking to media persons after the function, Fr. Makri thanked all those who helped him in making this application. He lauded Aibor Nongkynrih, a college student, who is the main creator of the application.
Asked why a Bible Game, Fr. Makri said that in a world where information can be shared and enriched online; computer games or mobile games serve as an interesting platform.
“Youth and children are constantly on their mobile phones and computer either playing games or engage in other activities and most of the time use media for self-destructive activities. This game will definitely draw many of them to some constructive activity.
“Media, especially the social media, is destroying the lives of many youths as parents, teachers, elders have very little control over them. Data available on the media is often bad as very few are uploading useful content; this app is one of our ways to combat the evil that is out there in the media world,” he added.
