TURA: The NPP in Bajengdoba has raised concern over the absence of 108 Ambulance Service in North Garo Hills District. Aldo A Sangma, NPP President of Bajengdoba unit, said in a statement he sought the service of 108 Ambulance on November 12 to ferry a seriously injured and bleeding patient to Tura Civil Hospital. However, the call attendant on duty reportedly told Sangma that the ambulance at Rari PHC had broken down.
When Sangma insisted that an ambulance be arranged, he was informed that there was neither an ambulance stationed at Resubelpara nor anywhere in the entire district of North Garo Hills.
Strongly condemning the Health (Department for its failure to provide an ambulance, Sangma demanded that the ambulance at Rari PHC be immediately repaired and one be commissioned at Bajengdoba PHC.
The 108 Ambulance is provided under National Rural Health Mission for urban and rural areas.
Sangma said the scheme has not covered all areas and that rural areas should be given priority considering the pathetic healthcare services in these pockets.
