SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has lashed out at the Union ministers visiting the North East frequently and “spending public money”.
“Why spend so much of money? They are not coming free of cost. Are they paying from their own pocket? It is going from the public exchequer. If they come they must do justice to why they are coming,” said Sangma.
Without taking any name, Sangma spoke about the indifferent attitude of Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar, who visited the State recently.
“I know one Union minister who visited the State. He gave an appointment to the chief executive members, I am talking about the minister of environment and forest  while visiting how much time did he spend? Did he give audience to those people who were given appointments after they requested for an audience,” the chief minister said and added that if they did not have time, they should not come.
When asked whether their frequent visit to the North East is seen as an electoral ploy, Sangma said, “Every political party has its own strategy. Now they are trying to say they are concerned about the North East and that is why they are coming… We will analyse, we will assess and we will investigate their intent.”
