SHILLONG: The Power Department has decided to implement Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), the central village electrification scheme.
In a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the State government would sign a tripartite agreement with the Centre and MeECL for the scheme.
“The government is committed to bring electricity to every village and household. Therefore, the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana was initiated. This scheme has now been replaced by Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana,” he said.
DDUGJY will cover 345 villages at a cost of over Rs 161.64 crore. Sangma said the Deen Dayal Yojana will cover all those villages which were left out under the earlier scheme. Also, new habitations around villages with electricity supply will also be included in the list. The scheme will be implemented with 85 per cent Central and 15 per cent State fund. “The proposal is to finally decide on implementation of the project with signing of the tripartite agreement,” the Chief Minister said.
Besides, the Integrated Power Development Scheme for urban areas will cover Shillong, Jowai, Nongpoh, Nongstoin, Resubelpara, Baghmara, Tura and Williamnagar. The funding pattern will be similar.
