Governor appoints Council secretary to chair meet
SHILLONG: Governor V. Shanmuganathan on Thursday authorised KHADC Secretary A. Shangpliang to preside over the meeting for election of a new Chairman of the Council during the session on Saturday.
The decision came as a blow to the State government that wanted East Khasi Hills DC PS Dkhaar to be the pro tem chairman to preside over the session to elect the chairman. The KHADC had preferred a sitting MDC for the same. The Governor preferred to adopt a middle path.
With the order of the Governor, the filing of nominations for the post of the Chairman has been fixed for Friday before 12 pm, while the session to elect the new Chairman will be on Saturday at 11 am.
When contacted, KHADC CEM PN Syiem said the ruling PDF will meet on Friday at 8 am to select its nominee for the post of Chairman.
Earlier on November 2, the government had sent the name of Dkhar to the Governor after the resignation of KHADC chairman Mansturdy Nongrem and deputy chairman Donevan Wanlang on October 26.
