Ex-UALA chief denies selling arms to GNLA

TURA: The former chief of the now disbanded rebel outfit UALA has denied allegations that he was selling arms to GNLA.
Singbirth Marak alias Norrok X Momin, the fugitive commander-in-chief of the outfit, has said he is not involved with any rebel group and that he had surrendered all arms before UALA was disbanded.
“I was ill at the time and responded to the government’s invitation for peace so that I can get myself treated. Where will I find the time to sell arms to the GNLA,” Marak said as he explained the reason for his coming out of the hideout. He added that there was no proof to implicate him for selling arms.
Marak also blamed the government for not keeping its promise that old cases against them would be withdrawn as within a month of UALA’s disbanding, new cases were slapped and a summon was served to him. “The interlocutors should have ensured that the government stuck to its assurance,” he added.
Earlier, police named Marak as the main accused in the sale of arms to GNLA after three former cadres of the outfit, who surrendered on November 13, confessed that they were directed by Marak to sell the weapons. Marak had gone underground following the arrests.
