SHILLONG: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is still waiting for approval from its headquarters for repair and overlaying of Umsning road even as the Guwahati-Shillong four-laning project is nearing completion.
NHAI had submitted the Rs 4-crore proposal for repairing Umsning road but no fund has been released by its headquarters.
However, the potholes on the 5-6 km road are being temporarily filled up and the patchwork is likely to be complete in a few days.
NHAI is also silent on constructing footbridges in different locations of the four-lane road.
Sources said there was a proposal to construct two footbridges in Byrnihat and Nongpoh and one in Umling. Though the project has been approved, land acquisition will take time, the sources added.
Also, work on Umsning bypass is going on in full swing and 20% of the work is complete. The earth cutting work is over and construction of pavement and culvert is on. The deadline for completion of the project is June 2017.
The implementing agency has no issue with land acquisition and all the land has been over to the implementing agency.
