Garo body to hold protest

TURA: The All A’chik Youth Federation in East Garo Hills has announced a day-long sit in demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in Williamnagar on Tuesday in protest against alleged anomalies in the recruitment of Gram Sevikas to the Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Department.
The allegation of ‘favouritism’ surfaced dur-ing the physical evaluation test (PET) for women (Gram Sevikas) which took place in the district on October 1, this year.
Complaints began to surface against the vice chairman of the District Selection Committee (DSC) and two non-official members over their role in the selection of candidates post the PET test.
It was alleged that some of the underperforming candidates had made their way to the selection list while those who performed better failed to make the cut.
“We have been demanding an inquiry and action against the DSC vice chairman and his two non-official members and also against those who illegally got through but every time the authorities have been making excuses and buying time,” alleged the AAYF in their letter to the deputy commissioner.
The organization has stated that they would be going ahead with their protest demonstration on Tuesday and would go for further protests if the government continues to remain idle on the issue where genuine candidates lost out to those who allegedly had political and bureaucratic connections.
