TURA: The United Democratic Party (UDP), State Youth Wing has urged the Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills to check any form of corruption taking place in the transportation of extracted coal on NH-62.
Pointing out that NGT guidelines and motor vehicle rules are not being followed by concerned departments while transportation of extracted coal, the party claimed that coal trucks were being overloaded upto 24 metric tonnes extending the limit of 9 tonnes, thereby violating the Motor Vehicle Act.
Reminding that the check gate belonging to the Directorate of Mineral Resources at Dainadubi is to check the validity of chalans of the transported coal after payment of royalty, it alleged that fines for overloading are instead being collected at the check gate.
It said that the transport department whose duty is to offload overloaded trucks and take fines at the same time was not doing as directed and allowing overloaded trucks to pass through without off loading after the payment of extra fines.
It also claimed that check gates belonging to the Transport, Directorate of Mineral Resources and Taxation departments at Dainadubi and Sarangma were not issuing genuine money receipts against the payment made by truckers.
Stating that all these need proper looking into in order to check illegality and prevent any kind of corruption, the party urged the DC to intervene and initiate measures to check the same.
