Govt challans sold for Rs 5 lakh, 3 arrested

SHILLONG: A joint team of East Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills police has arrested three persons for stealing challan books of the Mineral Transport and the Meghalaya Environment Protection Restoration Fund Transport and selling the same for Rs 5 lakh.
East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang said a complaint was lodged on November 4 that stated that two books of the Mineral Transport Challan and two of the Meghalaya Environment Protection Restoration Fund Transport Challan were found missing from the DMR office at Risa Colony in the city. A case was registered in this connection.
During investigation it was found that one Wadlang Kharhujon, the chowkidar at the DMR office, stole the challan books from the office and sold them to Obadaia Thongni (33) of New Nongstoin who in turn sold them to Challen Synshiang (28) of Shallang in West Khasi Hills for Rs 5 lakh.
