SHILLONG: The special leave petition filed by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) in the Supreme Court in connection with the opening of the CBI report on the recruitment scam has been withdrawn.
The intra-court appeal was heard on Thursday because earlier a petition for special leave to appeal was preferred in the Supreme Court due to non-availability of a division bench on the relevant date. However, it was withdrawn on November 17 when the writ petition was adjourned by the judge beyond two weeks on November 15.
During Thursday’s hearing, the court master said as per his enquiry, the sealed covers containing the CBI report and other materials are kept in the safe custody of the Registrar General.
The matter has been listed for hearing on January 30 next as prayed for and agreed to by the counsel for the parties. The court also said the record of the writ petition is to be kept attached to this appeal till further orders.
The court had on June 16 ordered a CBI probe after one of the job aspirants, Millon Ch Momin, filed a writ petition questioning the legality of the result of interviews conducted by MPSC between December 15 and 17, 2014, for the post of junior MPS officers in the Home (Police) department.
The petitioner had questioned the fairness of the process adopted by MPSC and alleged that he was not on the select list despite securing higher marks than four Garo candidates.
