SHILLONG: The surrender of a teenage HNLC cadre before East Khasi Hills police once again put focus on how rebel outfits are using social media for recruitment.
SP M. Kharkrang said the 17-year-old boy from Lakadong in East Jaintia Hills District, surrendered without firearms on Wednesday.
The teenager joined HNLC seven months ago after getting in touch with the rebel outfit on Facebook.       The SP said and added that two more boys joined the group with him.
Kharkrang asserted that the instance has indicated that HNLC is inducting minor boys as cadres through social media.
Meanwhile, the District Police urged parents and guardians to be watchful of their wards using social media.
