SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) is confident of winning atleast three seats in the upcoming KHADC by-polls scheduled to be held on December 13.
UDP working president Bindo Lanong on Sunday told The Shillong Times that the party may even win 4-5 seats with a bit of luck.
He however refused to name the constituencies where the party is expected to emerge victorious in the by-polls.
Lanong outlined the party candidates’ experience in public life and their educational backgrounds as reasons for the party’s confidence with the polls results.
Admitting that it was difficult to predict outcomes of elections, Lanong stated that the current wave in the State favoured the UDP.
To a query on the party’s preparations for the KHADC by-election, he replied the party was extending its support to all the candidates equally and party leaders were visiting all the constituencies to attend public meetings.
Asked if the by-election results would be an indication of the outcome of the 2018 Assembly elections, Lanong replied that Assembly elections and District Council elections were separate issues.
