SBI presents cheque to Assam Rifles as part of CSR
The State Bank of India on Tuesday presented a cheque to Maj Gen RK Gupta, Officiating Director General of Assam Rifles under its Corporate Social Responsibility. In a presentation ceremony at HQ Directorate General Assam Rifles, the State Bank of India team under Bimal Debroy, Regional Manager at Shillong presented the cheque as a token of contribution towards upgradation of Nodal Hospital at Mantripukhri as also providing medical cover to troops deployed in far flung areas of North East.
Tikrikilla to host 5th Ahoma Festival on December 9-10
Preparations are underway to hold the 5th Ahoma Festival on December 9 and 10 at Tikrikilla. The event is being organized by the Wangala Society in collaboration with the Balgito Youth and Socio Cultural Society of Tikrikilla. The festival is aimed at maintaining communal harmony among the various indigenous tribes residing in the region and will showcase traditional folk songs, dances, tales, traditional musical instruments, handicrafts as well as cultural practices of various tribes. The festival will witness the participation of tribes from Assam like Assamese, Rabha, Koch, Bodo, Karbis ect who will also represent their own tribes and showcase their cultural practices and traditions.
NEHU pro-VC assures JSU on Community College
The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) met the Pro vice chancellor of NEHU, H. Lamin, to pursue the matter pertaining to the establishment of Community College at Wahiajer, West Jaintia Hills. He has assured the delegation that the matter will be earnestly taken up in his capacity as chairman of the Task Force Committee, which is constituted to look into the administration of the college at Wahiajer. Lamin has informed that the committee has inspected the place earmarked for the college. He added that branches of study like bamboo technology, pathology and others will be taught by utilising the community hall of the Wahiajer and other rooms of the Animal and Husbandry Department.The commencement of constructing the college building in the over 6 hectares of land donated by Wahiajer villagers will be examined by the committee, and the matter will be expedited.
Two-day Natl seminar held at NEHU
A two-day National seminar on ‘Emerging Trends and Challenges of Micro Finance in North East India’ was held on November 24-25 here at NEHU, Tura Campus in Chasingre. The programme was organised by the department of Management. Tura MP and chief guest on the occasion, Conrad K Sangma while speaking during the inaugural function said that micro finance which is a provision of thrift, credit and other financial services and products, offers small amounts to the poor people for enabling them to raise their income levels and improve their living standards. PVC, Tura campus, Prof G Singaiah also highlighted about micro finance benefit to the society and said that it has been recognized as helping poor people meet their needs for small credit and flexible services offered to low income borrowers for meeting their modest consumption. Prof B Mishra, Dean, SEMIS, NEHU, Shillong said that micro finance or SHGs is the survival tool of the poor people and creates employment in the society.
Vendor devp prog for SMEs held
National Small Industries Corporation along with the directorate of commerce and industries organised a special vendor development programme at Shillong Club on Tuesday. The programme was aimed at spreading awareness on the Public Procurement Policy, the benefits of and prospects for small-scale industries under the scheme and facilities available for SME units from large buyers. It was also to enhance the competency of SMEs and promote their participation in government purchases. The programme was attended by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Meghalaya, the Chief General Manager (NE) of NSIC and the Director of Commerce and Industries. It was also attended by the 2nd in Command of CRPF 67 Battalion and the AGM of Power System Operation Corporation.
