W’nagar witnesses rally against demonetisation

SHILLONG: A massive protest rally was organised in Williamnagar on Tuesday in protest against the inconveniences that the Centre’s demonetisation is causing to the common man.
School Education and Literacy Minister Deborah Marak, who is also the local MLA, president of All India Mahila Congress Shobha Ojha and Chokpot legislator Bluebell Sangma were among those who joined the rally. Women party workers holding placards expressed their anguish over the decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.
Besides, a programme was organised in Williamnagar as part of the year-long celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s birth centenary. Marak attended the programme. In her address, Ojha narrated the plight of the poor and the marginalised who were the worst sufferers of demonetisation. She also said the party was committed to empowering women and reminded the gathering about the contribution of Indira Gandhi.
