Glitches in some EVMs meant for by-polls

SHILLONG: A large number of EVMs to be used for the district council by-polls were found to be defective after the initial checking by engineers.An official source said on Wednesday that the first level checking of EVMs by ECIL engineers has been completed and comparatively a large number of EVMs have been found defective and malfunctioning.However, during the meeting convened by Chief Secretary KS Kropha on Tuesday, the officials assured him that there was adequate number of EVMs in working condition for use in the polls.It was for the 2014 district council polls that the EVMs were purchased and sources said that there was no proper maintenance which led to the malfunctioning.
