Narrow escape for two victims from State

SHILLONG: Two persons from Meghalaya were abducted by miscreants from Assam who offered them bones of dwarfs which would have brought “good luck”. They were later released.
East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang said that on November 26 two persons, Ben G. Langstieh of Mawprem and Ilotstar Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi of Mairang, went to Joggipa in Bongaigaon after they received several calls from the area. The callers claimed that they would offer bones of dwarfs and convinced the duo that the specimens would bring in wealth.
The duo fell for it unknowingly and went to meet them in Assam. They were abducted and taken to a jungle at Chaibari under Chapar Police station. The kidnappers have demanded Rs 5 lakh for their release.
The families reported the matter to police and the special cell of the East Khasi Hills police swung into action with help from Assam Police.
The information that the police had identified the culprits and were about to launch a search operation unnerved the kidnappers who later released the two men.
The city police has advised the public not to entertain calls from such people offering dwarf bones, pillars, old coins as part of the Rice Puller hoax.
